Hmmm ... I think I would have not included the front lamppost cos it doesn't actually add anything to the overall effect. Maybe a tighter zoom on The Big One would work better?

OK, but the lamppost is the main subject forming the letter F with the one behind it. I accept your comment. Perhaps the F is not defined well enough ?

I was wondering where the 'F' came in. Is it something you do regularly or is just for this course? It sounds like a good idea for getting different shots and one worth looking at, thank you for that.

After six pints I wouldn't be able to look straight let alone walk between camera and stool - oh for the days when 12 pints in one night was considered to be a quiet night (I kid you not folks). This idea of using the self timer is something I have to look at seeing as I've never tried it at all. Focus shouldn't be a problem but surely with multi-segment metering getting the exposure right is a bit of a pig. You've done well anyway.

The sun cast the shaddow onto the pool bottom which is slightly curved itself. I took it a few years ago with a Kodak camera (large & heavy job, 4 AA batteries inside it) which I have no longer. I have used clone tool to remove some insects and leaves which collected on the bottom of the pool.

Posted: 29-Sep-07

Pete Wilson (paw248) says:
No, the Kodak had only a minimal zoom which I expect I was using to frame the shot. The pool was about 6 feet deep so pool bottom varies between , say, 13 - 25 feet away. The frizbee stayed where it was put. Once I framed the shot I just had to pose myself, the only constraint on this was my right hand of course.

I can see all your letter Pete but can I suggest that the image is not as sharp as it could be. I understand that it is a low light shot probably taken in a rush but maybe you could back and try again with a tripod? It would help get it sharp.

I like the slightly offset pathway, and it has a lovely timeless feel to it. If the day had been a bit brighter you could perhaps have increased the depth of field, or you could perhaps have used manual focus to get the figures sharper? The sharpest thing at present is the car on the RHS which is a little distracting. But it's a good composition. Does the ISO level appear in the EXIF data for any of your photos (I'm off to look now....!)?

Composition works well for me - the eye is led up the avenue and then wanders into the open green space behind. Did you use a tripod, Pete? (it seems a little blurred - not easy in low light). I've only just started using a tripod and it does make a difference in sharpness. The colour-combo also makes this a good photo.

A good range of colour - the colour wheel is well represented. The image angle also adds interest. Nice shot!

This is a great image and it looks like you\'ve done all the right things in PS. Any chance you can remove that distracting mark near the centre of the image on the building on the left using the cloning tool?

very nice. lovely muted colours. there seems to be a bit of jpeg artefacts around the light - perhaps added by the OpenStudio resizing ? If so, you can resize in PS before posting to ensure you are happy with what you are about to post. might be worth a reworking as it's a lovely picture.

Yes, I love this, not so much for the colour (there's nothing wrong with that, though), but as an exercise in composition. You're really making the play of light work for you. Beautifully simple idea. Well done!

Well done Pete, getting the red letter boxes set of by the yellow van is really good.

What I really noticed was the tiny yellow labels on the post-box notices. The yellow van must 'bring them out' in some way.

Well done, very clever. What does it look like if you crop it down to the top left hand corner?

Great pic. The spray peaking at the centre leads my eye backwards to the mountains and clouds. Love the colours, the composition and the framing! Is that it?! :)

Really like this one for its "path between light and dark", however unintended. Good deep DoF, sharp focus, and a grand combination of subtle colours. Possibly something, even an old pot or box, in the alley could have helped the composition, but this is great stuff!
